In a water chlorination system, the distribution tube is the pipe or conduit inside the contact tank that evenly disperses chlorinated water, ensuring proper mixing and disinfection before the water enters the distribution network.

🚰 Role of the Distribution Tube

Mixing Point: The tube introduces chlorine solution (from an injector or feed pump) into the water stream at a controlled location.

Uniform Contact: It helps distribute chlorine evenly across the tank or pipeline, preventing “hot spots” of high chlorine and areas with little or none.

Disinfection Efficiency: By ensuring thorough mixing, the tube allows chlorine to maintain the required contact time (CT value) to kill bacteria, viruses, and biofilm.

System Protection: Proper distribution prevents corrosion from localized overdosing and ensures compliance with public health standards.

⚙️ How It Works in Chlorination Systems

1.         Injection Point: Chlorine gas or sodium hypochlorite solution is injected into the water line.

2.         Distribution Tube: A perforated or baffled tube inside the contact tank spreads the chlorinated water evenly.

3.         Contact Tank: Water flows through the tank, allowing chlorine to react with pathogens and organic matter.

4.         Residual Maintenance: After mixing, a small chlorine residual (typically 0.2–4.0 mg/L) remains to protect water in the distribution system.
